ASU Students React to President Boyd’s Suspension
Students say they were shocked to find out Pres. Gwendolyn Boyd had been put on administrative leave by the board of trustees Friday.
Students gathered on the lawn of the president’s house at ASU Friday just after word spread that President Gwendolyn Boyd had been suspended.
Students gathered to pray and show their support.
“I believe President Boyd to be a very, very prominent leader for Alabama State University. I think she makes decisions with the students best interest at heart. She consults with students sometimes before making decisions, so Pres. Boyd was one of those leaders at ASU that I see taking the university to higher heights. So I’m confused as to why she was removed,” said Shane Parks, SGA president.
Many other students say the same thing.
“I’m surprised. I came in and saw it, that’s all I knew. To hear her suspended and she is in such a high position, it’s like ‘wow’,” said Daijaun Mathews.
While many students are surprised, others say they want to see some change within the leadership at ASU.
“I don’t know if the president change is the right change. It might could be the board of trustees that voted against her. They might need to be gone. So just wait and see. See what happens,” said Carlos Jones.
