Suspect in Police Officer Shooting in Custody
Montgomery police say the man accused of shooting an officer is in custody.Â
They say Matthew Wright is in custody in Louisiana. Â Police say Louisiana law enforcement spotted the vehicle Sunday afternoon. Â They say Wright then fled on foot, but was later caught.
Wright is accused of shooting officer Robert Hubbard at the Eastern Boulevard Walmart in Montgomery around 8:30 Sunday morning. Â
Police say they received a call about a theft at the Walmart. Â They say when Hubbard approached Wright, Wright pulled out a weapon and shot Hubbard.
Hubbard was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Â He underwent surgery and is expected to recover.
