Alabama State Parks Plan Last ShrimpFest

The last Baumhower’s ShrimpFest and Barbecue celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Alabama State Parks is scheduled Saturday at Oak Mountain State Park near Birmingham.

State park officials say the event will begin at 4 p.m. on the beach area behind the park’s main office. It will include Gulf shrimp, barbecue, live music and inflatables for children. Tickets are $3.

Park officials say restaurant owner and former NFL player Bob Baumhower will be honored for his role in the 75th anniversary celebration. Baumhower says he enjoyed being part of an exciting time for Alabama’s parks.

Alabama has 22 state parks covering 48,000 acres.
