On a Warming Trend
TERRIFIC TUESDAY: After the cold start, it will be another day with an abundance of sunshine that will allow for temperatures to warm into the lower 70s for much of South/Central Alabama. It will be another rain-free day and there will be very little if any clouds again.
RAIN CHANCE RETURN LATE WEDNESDAY: A storm system is moving through the Rockies and looks to produce our next chance of rain Wednesday and Wednesday night. Still not an overly impressive rain producer for Alabama, and like the last few systems, showers will be moving in from the west, but will be diminishing as they move into the drier air that is over the state. If you see any rain, consider yourself very lucky.
RETURN OF A BIG CORONAL HOLE: At the end of October, a hole in the sun’s atmosphere lashed Earth’s magnetic field with solar wind, sparking moderately-strong geomagnetic storms and almost a full week of Arctic auroras. News flash: It’s back. The same “coronal hole” is turning toward Earth again. Forecasters expect the solar wind to reach Earth during the late hours of Nov. 22nd with minor G1-class geomagnetic storms possible on Nov. 23rd.
THANKSGIVING: For Turkey Day, the Wednesday night system will be exiting the state and the day should be dry and mild overall. We are likely to start the day with some lingering clouds, but the day should feature a clearing sky and highs in the mid 70s.
BLACK FRIDAY: If you are one of those folks planning to shop until you drop, you’re in luck…the weather will cooperate. For now we are forecasting a clear sky with lows in the 40s and highs back in the lower 70s.
THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Both Saturday and Sunday look dry and cool. An area of high pressure to our west will allow for northwesterly flow that will allow for slightly cooler temps for the weekend. Lows will be around the lower 40s, while highs will range from the lower 60s.
IRON BOWL: For the greatest college football game of the year in Alabama, Saturday for now looks like a perfect day for the game, with ample sunshine and a kickoff temperature in Tuscaloosa (2:30p at Bryant-Denny Stadium) near 65 degrees, falling into the low 60s by the final whistle.
ANOTHER CHANCE OF RAIN: The overall weather pattern is trending more active and it looks like the models are grasping on to another decent shot of rain for Monday and into Tuesday. The past few runs of the global models are advertising a nice soaking rain with perhaps some stronger storms early next week. This is very encouraging and hopefully a sign of things to come as far as the potential for rainfall. The drought will no go away quickly, but several storm system bringing soaking rains is exactly what we need to start eating away at the rainfall deficits across the state.
