Lowndes Co. Chief Deputy Goes on Trial for Assault

A Lowndes County deputy accused of physically attacking a man in the county courthouse goes on trial for assault.
Chief Deputy Chris West is accused of body slamming a county jail inmate at the courthouse back in May.
West is facing a third degree assault charge in connection with the incident.
Lowndes County court officials recused themselves from the case.
Crenshaw County judge Thomas Sport was called in to hear the case and the Montgomery County DA’s office was called in to try the case.
About a dozen witnesses took the stand to testify but one witness left without testifying because of an emergency.
Court officials say that testimony will have to be rescheduled before the trial can proceed.
