NWS: Ala May Have Cooler Winter Than Normal

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) – The National Weather Service says the upcoming winter might be cooler and wetter than normal in Alabama.

The agency’s outlook for the upcoming winter says there’s as much of a 50 percent chance that temperatures will be well below average across Alabama. The chances for a cold winter are greatest in southern counties.

The weather service says there’s also a chance it will be wetter than usual in south Alabama, although the prediction for north Alabama is equal chances of a wet or dry winter.

Last winter was exceptionally cold and snowy east of the Rockies. Forecasters say a repeat of that extreme pattern is unlikely, although the outlook does favor below-average temperatures in Southern states in general.
