CrimeStoppers Tees Up For Year’s Biggest Fundraiser

It’s not every day that a round of golf helps catch criminals, but this year’s Crime Stoppers golf tournament is doing just that.

When you see a CrimeStoppers post, there’s always a reward attached.

Since the organization is a non-profit, it depends on events like this.

“We are separate from the police even though we serve 16 police agencies. So we have to have fundraisers and this is the biggest one that we have every year but we also take donations throughout the whole year as well,” said Susan Moss, CrimeStoppers executive director.

This is the 13th annual golf tournament to benefit crimestoppers.

They raised over 70 thousand dollars.

100 golfers took to the tees for the event.

People around the community are happy to see fundraisers like this.

Rick’s Jewelers in Prattville had several items lifted from the store.

Dora Kleinschmidt says crimestoppers was instrumental when things were taken from her store.

“It was great. We got the items back within just a few days and we had lots of feedback from the community,” said Kleinschmidt.

With all of crimestoppers success, there are more rewards paid out each year.
And that actually left the organization shorthanded earlier in the year.

“As long as we keep posting criminals, we will keep catching them. and we actually got to the point where we were low and we had to lay off a little bit. But now thanks to this golf tournament we’ll be able to post a lot more criminals and get them off the street,” said Moss.

She says with the public’s help, crimestoppers has led to over 150 arrests just this year.

If you would like to help you can find crimestoppers at 215stop.com, or visit Chappy’s next Tuesday. 10 percent of your purchase will go to help the organization.
