163 arrests made in Mobile County crackdown

Alabama law enforcement officials say a multi-agency operation has resulted in 163 arrests and the confiscation of 83 illegally owned guns.

Alabama Law Enforcement Agency officials said Tuesday that more than 30 officers from several agencies participated in Operation Triple Beam, which began in June and was executed over the summer in the Mobile County area.

Investigators from the U.S. Marshals, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the Mobile Police Department and several other agencies were involved in the operation.

Authorities say the operation also led to the confiscation of $24,000 in cash and nearly $80,000 in illegal drugs including crack cocaine, marijuana, spice, meth and prescription drugs.

Officials say they’re expecting a number of the cases to result in federal indictments. (Copyright 2014 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.)
