Study Ranks Alabama Among the Least Educated States
A study released by WalletHub ranks the states from Most to Least Educated. Alabama was in the bottom ten, ranked number 44 out of 50.
The study includes statistics like the number of adults in the state with high school diplomas, college degrees, and even the quality of public schools in the state, among other criteria.
Local educators say the results are shocking, but don’t feel that they can take all the blame. They feel a lot of the problems addressed in the study could be changed if the state government would provide more funding.
“Funding is a large key when you’re dealing with education,” says Georgiana Principal Bryant Marlow. “When they start cutting that, then they definitely start cutting the success of our students.”
“The funding of those states that are in the top ten percent? If we could mimic that maybe we could mimic their results,” adds Superintendent Amy Bryan.
