Flowers Speaks on Upcoming Legislative Session

This year’s Legislative Session kicks off on Tuesday, February 7th.
This marks the seventh year of a Republican Super Majority in the State House. Political Analyst Steve Flowers has a few ideas on what he thinks will be the most important this time around for the mostly conservative group.
While he doesn’t think the general fund budget or a state lottery will be a major topic, he does believe Governor Robert Bentley plans to bring up his $800 million prison transformation plan. It failed in both the regular and special session last year, and Flowers isn’t sure enough details have been ironed out to change lawmakers’ minds.
“I want to see exactly how much you’re going to save and how you’re going to save it, and pay this money back,” he says. “I don’t think a bank would loan somebody some money, if you went in for a car loan says, ‘well, this is going to get better gas mileage so I’m going to be able to pay the note.’ They want to see how you’re going to pay that note, you know?”
