Bentley: Election Shows GOP Dominance

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) – Republican Gov. Robert Bentley says Tuesday’s GOP sweep shows the disarray of the Alabama Democratic Party and the dominance of Republicans.

Bentley took a campaign victory lap in a Wednesday press conference in Montgomery. Bentley says Alabama voters identify more with the Republican Party. Republicans, as they did in 2010, took all statewide races. The GOP also increased their numbers in the Alabama Legislature.

The governor said he tried to assist down ballot candidates as he campaigned for a second term.

Bentley acknowledged that Alabama faces daunting problems in state budgets, Medicaid and prisons.  The governor says he does not yet know what the solutions will be.

Bentley did not rule out gambling as a potential revenue source. He said Alabama will not expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act.
