Wetumpka Boys and Girls Club Fights for Funding
The Wetumpka Boys and Girls Club is fighting for funding after the Wetumpka City Council voted to not include the club in its budget. Percy Gill, on the council, says he does not understand why that decision was made.
“We received an additional $300,000 + in revenues from business licenses which is now sitting in an account, I don’t understand what that money is being used for,” Gill explained.
He says the club’s annual budget is between $150,ooo and $170,000, $40,000 of that usually comes from the city.
Now supporters of the club, like Michael Waters, are looking elsewhere to find funding. They’ve organized a meeting Thursday night to hopefully get more community sponsors on board.
If additional funding is not found by April, the club could have to close its doors.
The meeting will be held at Rogers Chapel AME Zion Church in Wetumpka at 6 p.m.
