Outdoor Events Highlight Saturday Line Up of Events at Jubilee

It was another full day of activities today at the annual Bridge Crossing Jubilee in Selma.

Outdoor events took center-stage Saturday highlighted by the annual parade and the outdoor music festival.

Hundreds of people lined Broad Street for the annual Jubilee Parade sponsored by Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated.

Roderico Guzman of Guatemala was one of them but he didn’t know the Bridge Crossing Jubilee was going on when he decided to bring his daughters to Selma to tour the sites.

Guzman is taking a course at Air University at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery. He says they wanted to experience the city’s powerful history first-hand.

“We’ve seen the movie. We’ve read books about Martin Luther King and their movement for civil rights principals but focused on the vote. I took my girls with me so we could learn about history, walk where they walked,” he said.

A celebrity basketball game and the Freedom Flame Awards Gala wrapped up the day’s events.
