President of Whaley Construction Speaks Following Charges Against Former Employees
While taking a drive through Troy, you could pass by several construction projects, most of which are being handled by Whaley Construction.
“Proud of our company, proud of employees, proud of all our contributions to the community,” says Alex Whaley, President of Whaley Construction.
But now, Alex Whaley of Whaley Construction suffering a loss of millions of dollars after police say former employees, Marjorie Beasley, Karen White and Jeanette Holiday managed to steal over 1.8 million dollars from the company in the last 4 years.
“It’s effected the entire Whaley family and it’s effected every hardworking employee that’s worked here for the last 41 years,” says Whaley.
Beasley is also charged for allegedly taking more than $500,000 from the Whaley’s personal account. Whaley says he and his family..Are deeply saddened by the theft, but he has full confidence in the legal system.
“All three defendants were assigned to separate circuit judges that will conduct any pre-trial motions and hearings as necessary,” says District Attorney Tom Anderson.
Anderson believes it’s the largest theft in Pike County.
“We’ve seen some large thefts over the years but this takes the cake,” says Anderson.
As for the Whaley family, Alex Whaley says he’s thankful that matters are now in the hands of the law.
“We’re looking forward to putting all this behind us and moving forward and helping this community grow,” says Whaley.
Authorities say, after looking at specific audit years, the total amount stolen from the company could be more than 5.5 million dollars.
Authorities say the case is still under investigation and more charges could be filed.
