MPD Charges a Driver with Felony DUI and 2 Counts of Reckless Murder

 MONTGOMERY- The Montgomery Police Department has charged a driver with 

 
felony DUI, felony leaving the scene of an accident and two counts of reckless murder in 
 
its investigation of a fatal traffic crash that occurred at about 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 
 
27. MPD charged Marquis Coleman, 40, of Montgomery in connection with the deaths of 
 
Loubertha Phyfier, 78 and Marion Lewis, 62 both of Montgomery. 
 
Montgomery Police and Fire Medics responded to the scene of a two-vehicle crash, 
 
at the intersection of Rosa Parks Avenue and West Edgemont Avenue. MPD’s initial 
 
investigation indicates a 2007 Mazda 6 driven by Coleman was south bound on 
 
Rosa Parks ran the stop sign, colliding with a 2001 Infiniti I30 beginning to cross the 
 
intersection east on West Edgemont. The driver of the Infinity was transported to a local 
 
hospital by POV with minor injuries. Four occupants of the Infiniti were transported 
 
to local hospitals, two with non-life threatening injuries and two with life threatening 
 
injuries. Both with life-threatening injuries were later pronounced dead. Coleman was 
 
transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. Following his arrest, Coleman was 
 
transported to the Montgomery County Detention Facility.
 
This cause of this crash is currently under investigation, and no further information is 
 
available for release at this time.
