Authorities in Perry county say a newborn baby was found in a trash can.

District attorney Michael Jackson tells Alabama News Network the baby was found in a trash can near Perry county.

The baby and the mother have been taken to the hospital.

Jackson says the baby’s umbilical cord had been cut with a razor.
Â
The mother is now facing attempted murder charges. She could be charged with capitol murder and face possible execution if the baby dies.
