Reggie Barlow Reacts To New ASU Head Football Coach

It’s been a tough year for Coach Reggie Barlow.

After getting his first raise with a new contract just a few months ago, he was fired.

But ASU’s former Coach wants fans to support new head coach Brian Jenkins.

“Some folks wanted me gone, some folks wanted me to stay. I just think as Alabama State folks regardless of the coach, you have to support the coach, you have to support the university. And that’s my stand,” said Barlow.

He not only coached the hornets, but he played for them when he was in college before starting his NFL career.

He says as an alumnus, there’s a lot to look forward to.

“I’m excited for Alabama State. Of course that’s my school, I love it. If you’re going to go out and get a coach, get one like Brian Jenkins, a proven winner,” said Barlow.

The hornets have played for eight years under Barlow’s leadership. In the high pressure world of coaching, he’s not surprised that there’s already someone new taking his old spot, even though he left with five consecutive winning seasons under his belt.

“During this time you have to move swift, there’s recruiting going on. You have to get your staff and all that together. I think for their benefit it’s good that they were able to move this fast and get a guy like coach jenkins aboard.”

Coach Barlow has been out of job for less than a month.

As for what’s next for him? He says right now he’s just enjoying the extra time to fish, but he’s looking for more coaching opportunities.
