Christmas is over but the holiday shopping continues.

Even with a sharp increase in online shopping, some brick and mortar stores in the River Region say it’s still been one of the best holiday seasons compared to years past.

Stores across the River Region opened up early.

Target store managers says there was a line of about 50 people hoping to get in and take advantage of discounts on holiday decorations and mark downs on other items.

Lisa Garman, a post-holiday shopper said, “I think that the fact that it’s on the Friday and most of us the way the holiday fell this year, took Friday off or were given off so it’s like we have a three day shopping weekend it’s great.”

The National Retail Federation is expecting a more than 4 percent increase in sales this holiday season from last year. That’s the largest jump in sales over one year since 20-11.
