MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) – The Alabama Human Trafficking Task Force is planning an event to raise awareness of human trafficking and to educate the public on how to identify potential victims.

Organizers say the task force is asking the mayors of Huntsville, Madison, Tuscaloosa, Montgomery, Birmingham, and Mobile to sign proclamations on Friday in observance of National Human Trafficking Awareness Month.

Officials say Huntsville is the midpoint between several human trafficking hubs in the Southeast including Birmingham, Atlanta, Nashville, Memphis and Chattanooga, Tennessee. Task force officials say I-20 and I-65 are also known as major human trafficking corridors.

The task force was formed by Gov. Robert Bentley in March 2014 and has quarterly public meetings at the Alabama State House.
