Organization of New Alabama Legislature Much Like Old

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) – The newly elected Alabama Legislature begins its organizational session Tuesday, but the leadership will look much like the old Legislature.
House members say they expect to re-elect Republican Mike Hubbard for another four-year term as speaker even though he’s been indicted on ethics charges.
Senate members say they expect to re-elect Republican Del Marsh as president pro tem.
Legislative leaders say the chairmanships of major committees will remain largely the same because so many legislators got re-elected in November.
It’s much different from four years ago, when Republicans took control of the Legislature for the first time in 136 years and had to build a leadership structure from scratch.
Marsh says he hopes to complete the organizational session Wednesday. The regular session begins March 3.
