Montgomery Police continue to investigate a shooting that had multiple law enforcement agencies on alert. It happened Wednesday morning at a Montgomery gas station.
Montgomery Police are not confirming much and the details are limited but we do know a shoot out took place at a gas station off of Fairground Road and the suspects led authorities on a manhunt from the gas station to a nearby shopping center.
The Pure Gas Station off of Fairground Road in Montgomery was the scene of a shootout around 11AM on Wednesday. Lynn Franklin, who works at the gas station, spoke with Alabama News Network and the gas station owner gave us surveillance video.
“Two customers came in,” she says. “They were buying their things, they were getting ready to go to their car and when they got in their car, here comes this maroon car up beside them and just got out and just started shooting at them. Then the green car, he got out and he started shooting back at them.”
Fortunately, no one was injured and a Montgomery Policeman was pulling into the gas station at the time of the shooting.
“He was in an undercover SUV, like a silver-grayish color but yeah he was right there,” Jackson explains. “I was so thankful that it was an officer because he was right here right when it was going down.”
Montgomery Police say after the shooting, the suspects took off to the Eastbrooke Shopping Center on Federal Drive and Coliseum Boulevard. K9 Units searched the area, looking for them. The green Impala was impounded and Montgomery Police say the other car, a Buick Roadmaster, was found abandoned. The shooting closed the Pure Gas Station down for about an hour and a half.
“It was like 5 to 7 shots going back and forth, back and forth amongst each other,” Jackson says.
Montgomery Police would not go on camera to discuss this incident because they said nobody was injured. After further investigation, the suspect was developed as Lavaris Youngblood, 29. He was taken into custody on the scene and charged with Assault 2nd. He was transported to MCDF. We’re working to get more details and will continue to follow this case.
