The city of Montgomery officially has a new top cop on the job…with the swearing in of the city’s new police chief.
Ernest Finley took the oath of office today in city hall although he actually started his duties over a week ago. Finley has 28 years of experience with the Atlanta Police Department.
He says he’ll spend the next six months accessing the department’s strengths and weaknesses.
But as for any big changes… one thing says he strongly beleives in is a sense of strong community involvement with the police department.
“YOU CAN’T GO WRONG WITH THAT COMMUNITY POLICEING PHOLOSOPHY. IT’S BEEN VERY HELPFUL AND SUCCESSFUL FOR ME BECUASE IT EQUALS CRIME REDUCTION, THAT ENGAGEMENT AND THOSE PARTNERSHIPS, BECAUSE WE CAN’T DO IT OURSELVES.” Says Ernest Finely.
Finley replaces former police chief Kevin Murphy who was forced into retirement last year by Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange.
Murphy is now the new Chief Deputy for the Montgomery county Sheriff’s office.
