Mayor Todd Strange and Former Congressman Artur Davis Running for Montgomery Mayor

The race for Montgomery Mayor blew up today, with two candidates declaring for the seat.

Both current Mayor Todd Strange and former congressman Artur Davis announced their candidacy today.

Davis is a Montgomery native who represented Alabama’s seventh district in congress. He also ran for governor but lost in the primary.

Mayor Strange has been elected to the seat twice.

He says the city is moving in the right direction, but Davis has his own ideas as well.

“We could be up as much as four or five million dollars in our revenue streams. That gives us some wherewithall to get more officers, or to redefine how we fight crime so that’s where we’re going to be over the next year.” say Mayor Todd Strange.

“Elect me your mayor and I’m going to take the schools under city control and in four years if I don’t turn these schools around hold me accountable with your vote, give me a chance to turn education into Montgomery’s biggest asset, instead of its biggest liabilty. ” says Artur Davis

So far these are the only two people who have announced for the job.

The election is on August 25th.
