Measles are on the rise across the nation and public health officials are urging parents to get their children vaccinated from this highly contagious disease.
The good news is that Alabama is one of the highest vaccinated states.
But state public health officials warn that if children are not vaccinated we will see an outbreak here.
With the measles spreading fast, we asked some of you whether you think vaccinations should be mandated by the government.
“I think they really need it. With all the disease and stuff in the this world, why not?? It’s not going to kill them,” said Bernice Hill.
“The government is in our lives enough already. I think they should when going to school like we used to growing up. But it’s hard to say… we don’t want them running our lives,” said Jeff Pinkerton.
Children who attend public school in Alabama are required to get their vaccinations.
But the requirements differ from state to state.
The current outbreak has spread to 14 states since beginning in California in mid-December.
