Alabama’s Failing Schools List

The Alabama Department of Education released its failing schools list for 2014.
The schools are defined by the Alabama Accountability Act.
In Montgomery, Bellingrath Middle, Brewbaker Middle, Capitol Heights Middle, Floyd Elementary,
Goodwyn Middle, McKee Middle, Southlawn Middle are all on the list including the Children’s Center in
Brewbaker and Capitol Heights had been on the list last year. The rest were added this year.
These schools were in the lowest 6 percent of schools within 3 of the past 6 years.
Under the Accountability Act, parents can transfer their child to a different public school or receive a tax credit to help pay for private school.
