Alabama State University is celebrating 148 years of service today.

It’s the university’s 115th founders day convocation and the school is celebrating by honoring the heritage of the 9 former slaves who founded the university in Marion in 1856 as the Lincoln Normal School.

This years featured guest speaker is civil rights attorney doctor Fred gray.

Gray is an ASU alumni and he represented both Rosa Parks and Dr. Martin Luther King during the Civil Rights Movement.
