A federal court hearing in Mobile this afternoon may offer some guidance to Alabama Probate Judges who have been given conflicting advice on issuing gay marriage licenses. 22 of the state’s 67 Probate courts are issuing licenses, but others are not.

Chilton county’s probate judge says it’s been a difficult week because of conflicting orders from federal courts and chief justice Roy Moore.

Moore told probate judges they didn’t have to issue marriage licenses, despite a federal judge’s ruling overturning a state’s ban on gay marriage.
