State Rep. Darrio Melton will be giving up his seat in the Legislature in order to lead the city of Selma. He beat James Perkins, Jr. in the runoff for the mayor’s position. Becky Bracke Becomes First Woman Ever Elected Opp Mayor

Becky Bracke has made history in Opp. She is the first woman ever elected mayor in the Covington County city. Bracke beat incumbent Mayor John Bartholomew 56% to 44% in a runoff. Hammock Wins Big in Tallassee’s Mayor Race

In Tallassee, Johnny Hammock won in a huge victory over his opponent George McCain with 75 percent of the vote.

Johnny Hammock got 781 to McCain’s 261 votes Tuesday evening. Hammock says it was a grassroots effort that took a lot of people in the community to help him out.
