Anthony Sowell has died in prison while awaiting execution for killing 11 women and hiding their remains in and around his Cleveland home. The Ohio prisons agency says the 61-year-old Sowell had been receiving end-of-life care at Franklin Medical Center for a terminal illness when he died Monday. The death was not related to COVID-19. Cleveland police investigating a rape case searched Sowell’s house in 2009 and discovered two bodies. They eventually uncovered the remains of 11 women. Sowell was convicted in 2011 of killing the women. His case highlighted concerns about authorities downplaying the plight of missing Black women.

JACKSON, Miss. — Officials in Mississippi say about 2% of the coronavirus vaccinations given so far in the state have gone to people with out-of-state addresses.
