A new documentary charts the rise of Metropolitan Opera Music Director Yannick Nezet-Seguin from a school stage to chief conductor at one of the world’s great opera houses. “Yannick: An Artist’s Journey,” combines amateur video moments from Yannick’s childhood with behind-the-scenes shots of some of his formative performances. The film, which opens in theaters July 7, includes an interview with one of his musical influences, the late pianist Anisia Campos, who describes Nezet-Seguin’s talent and guiding him in his quest to become a world-class musician. One notable scene shows Nezet-Seguin as a fourth-grader in Montreal, conducting Ravel’s “Bolero,” which is paired with him as an adult leading a performance of the same number with the Met orchestra.
