Chargers, Chiefs trying to stay out of AFC West cellar

By DAVE SKRETTA - AP Sports Writer

After the Chargers lost a heartbreaker to the Cowboys last weekend, and the Chiefs fumbled away a win in Baltimore on Sunday night, the longtime rivals find themselves in the most unexpected of circumstances. The loser of their showdown on Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium will be in the AFC West cellar three weeks into the season. There’s plenty of time to turn things around, though, especially in the expanded 17-game regular season. But it would help if that turnaround began this weekend, when the Chargers and Chiefs will be trying to keep pace with unbeaten Denver and Las Vegas.

Fangio: Meyer says ‘every week it’s like playing Alabama’

By ARNIE STAPLETON - AP Pro Football Writer

Broncos coach Vic Fangio says Jaguars coach Urban Meyer told him that in the NFL it seems like he faces powerhouse Alabama week in and week out. Meyer has had a rough transition to the pros after a highly successful 17-year run as a college coach in which he won 187 games and lost just 32. The three-time national champion has lost back-to-back games for the first time since 2013 while he was at Ohio State. The Jaguars host the unbeaten Arizona Cardinals this weekend. Meyer hasn’t lost three consecutive games since 2010 when he was coaching the Florida Gators.
