Broncos finally have deep roster to end playoff drought

George Paton has overseen a roster overhaul in Denver where the Broncos are seeking to snap out of a five-year funk that includes four consecutive losing seasons for the first time since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger. Paton rebuilt his defense starting with his secondary. On offense he replaced erratic Drew Lock with the more reliable Teddy Bridgewater, jettisoned running back Phillip Lindsay and replaced him with second-rounder Javonte Williams of North Carolina. The Broncos are going against the grain in relying on their defense and a good ground game to open up their offensive fireworks in 2021.

The Denver Broncos are still seeking their first victory in September under third-year head coach Vic Fangio and they know a fast start this year is key to turning around their fortunes. Defensive end Shelby Harris says the September stupor is a topic of discussion in the locker room as the Broncos try to decipher ways to get off to a better start. They’ve lost all seven of their September games under Fangio, who has a 12-13 record after October. The Broncos have continued tweaking their roster in hopes of improving their special teams.
