Von Miller’s comeback off to fast start for unbeaten Broncos

Von Miller’s comeback is off to a good start. The 32-year-old linebacker is the AFC’s Defensive Player of the Month for September in his return from a devastating ankle injury that sidelined him all of last season. Miller had four sacks in September and also had six tackles for loss in leading the Denver Broncos to a 3-0 record. Miller is taking the honor in stride, but not so his buddy. Kicker Brandon McManus is thrilled to see Miller back on the field after watching him spend the 2020 season rehabbing from a dislodged ankle tendon.

Sporting KC signs captain Russell to extension through 2023

Sporting Kansas City has signed high-scoring captain Johnny Russell to a two-year contract extension that includes an option for the 2024 season. Russell joined the MLS club in 2018 and has been among the league’s most productive players. He has 35 goals with 37 assists while starting 100 of 120 games he has appeared in across all competitions. Russell already is seventh on the club’s career list for goals. Sporting KC is 14-6-7 with 49 points, two behind Seattle for the lead in the Western Conference.

K-State loses forward Seryee Lewis for season to ACL surgery

Kansas State forward Seryee Lewis will miss the upcoming basketball season after having surgery last week to repair a torn ACL that he sustained in preseason workouts. The 6-foot-9 sophomore played in 18 games as a freshman. He was expected to compete for minutes alongside Davion Bradford, Kaosi Ezeagu and Ismael Massoud in a revamped front court for the Wildcats. Carlton Linguard and Logan Landers also will take on extra minute this season.
