Jansen stays with Dodgers, who decline Gyorko option

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen has decided not to opt out of his contract with Los Angeles.

The NL West champions declined a $13 million option on 31-year-old infielder Jedd Gyorko, who gets a $1 million buyout.

Jansen, a 32-year-old right-hander, agreed to an $80 million, five-year contract in January 2017 and could have terminated the deal this weekend and become a free agent.

His contract calls for salaries of $18 million next year and $20 million in 2021.

CHICAGO (AP) — Starting pitcher Yu Darvish and outfielder Jason Heyward are staying with the Chicago Cubs, who exercised their $11.5 million option for 2020 on left-hander José Quintana on Saturday and declined their $6.5 million option on lefty Derek Holland, which triggered a $500,000 buyout.

Darvish and Heyward both had the right to opt out of their contracts and become free agents, but decided against it.

Darvish is owed $81 million over the final four seasons of a $126 million, six-year deal, and Heyward is due $86 million in the next four seasons of a $184 million, eight-year contract.

Chapman, Yankees agree to $48M, 3-year contract

NEW YORK (AP) — Aroldis Chapman is staying with the New York Yankees, amending his contract to a $48 million, three-year deal.

The 31-year-old All-Star closer had been owed $15 million in each of the next two seasons as part of an $86 million, five-year contract, and he had the right to opt out of the deal and become a free agent.

The left-hander’s amended deal includes salaries of $16 million annually and a full no-trade provision.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Kyle Connor scored in overtime to lift the Winnipeg Jets to a 4-3 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday night.

It was Connor’s seventh career goal in seven games against Vegas.

The Jets won their second straight game on back-to-back nights, after surviving San Jose’s 53 shots Friday during a 3-2 victory.

Combining regular season and playoff games, the Jets are now 2-4-0 all-time at T-Mobile Arena.

It was the second time in three nights the Golden Knights blew a two-goal lead in the third period, after losing to Montreal 5-4 in overtime on Thursday.
