Orioles-Nats dispute set for July 12 court arguments

NEW YORK (AP) — A New York judge has set July 12 for oral arguments in the long-running dispute between the Washington Nationals and Baltimore Orioles over money from the cable channel they jointly own,

Supreme Court Justice Joel M. Cohen on Friday accepted the schedule proposed by the teams.

Washington wants Cohen to confirm an April 15 decision by Major League Baseball’s Revenue Sharing Definitions Committee awarding the Nationals $296.8 million from the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network for the team’s television rights for 2012-16.

BALTIMORE (AP) — Point of Honor took charge with a burst from the outside and held off Ulele to win the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes on Friday.

Fulfilling her role as the favorite, Point of Honor rallied marvelously for jockey Javier Castellano and prevailed in a duel to the wire by a half-length.

Point of Honor paid $7.80, $4.60 and $3.20 in this Grade 2 race for 3-year-old fillies. It was her third win in four career races.

With jockey Irad Ortiz aboard, Cookie Dough bolted from the gate and led for much of the race before falling behind the fast-closing Point of Honor and Ulele.

Filly dies on track at Pimlico the day before Preakness

BALTIMORE (AP) — A filly collapsed and died while running at Pimlico Race Course on Friday, the day before the track hosts the second leg of the Triple Crown.

Congrats Gal faltered in the upper stretch of the Miss Preakness Stakes in 83-degree heat and was eased to the finish line.

The Florida-bred 3-year-old was running her sixth career race. She came in last in the eighth race and fell to the dirt about 100 yards past the finish line.

Clearly distraught, Congrats Gal jockey Trevor McCarthy said the filly felt hot walking on the track before the race. As a medical team rushed to the scene,

Mets select contract of OF Carlos Gómez; Conforto on IL

MIAMI (AP) — Twelve years later, outfielder Carlos Gómez is back in the New York Mets’ lineup.

New York selected Gómez’s contract from Triple-A Syracuse and had him batting sixth and in right field Friday night at Miami.

The Mets placed outfielder Michael Conforto on the seven-day injured list due to a concussion, and designated outfielder Keon Broxton for assignment. They recalled right-hander Paul Sewald from Syracuse.

Gómez, an All-Star for Milwaukee in 2013-14, last played for the Mets when he was a rookie in 2007. They signed him to a minor league contract in March, and he batted .270

Judge: Ex-NFL players must see neurologists close to home

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A federal judge in Philadelphia says retired NFL players seeking testing as part of a $1 billion concussion settlement must see a doctor close to home to prevent fraud and “doctor shopping.”

Lawyers for thousands of ex-players say they agreed to the settlement because they could choose their own neurologist. Their lawsuits alleged the NFL long hid what it knew about concussions and brain injuries.

Some players’ lawyers call the ruling Thursday from Senior U.S. District Judge Anita Brody a significant change to the 2013 settlement.
