Maximum Security owner challenges horses helped by Derby DQ

BALTIMORE (AP) — The owner of Maximum Security has made a multimillion-dollar challenge to the owners of four horses that benefited from his horse’s historic disqualification in the Kentucky Derby.

Gary West says in a statement Friday he’ll pay each of those other owners $5 million apiece if Country House, War of Will, Long Range Toddy or Bodexpress finishes ahead of Maximum Security in the next race against him through the end of the year.

CINCINNATI (AP) — The Dodgers put Kenta Maeda on the 10-day injured list after he hurt his left thigh, costing them one of their best starters in May.

Maeda gave up only three hits in 6 2/3 innings of a 2-0 win over the Padres on Wednesday. The right-hander is 5-2 in nine starts with a 3.52 ERA. He hasn’t allowed a run in his last two starts.

The Dodgers called up infielder Matt Beaty and outfielder Kyle Garlick for the start of a series against the Reds on Friday.

The Latest: Juncos Racing to pull all-nighter building car

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Latest on Indianapolis 500 practice (all times local):

Juncos Racing will work overnight if needed to have a car ready to qualify for the Indianapolis 500.

Kyle Kaiser crashed the car early on “Fast Friday” at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the near-airborne wreck destroyed the entry. Juncos lost both its primary sponsors right before practice began this week for the May 26 race, but Kaiser had managed an impressive three days on track until the accident.

Team owner Ricardo Juncos praised Kaiser and the crew for not bowing to the adversity.
