Knicks extend winning streak to 9, beat Raptors 120-103
UNDATED (AP) — Julius Randle had 31 points and 10 rebounds, RJ Barrett had 25 points and 12 boards, and the New York Knicks beat the Toronto Raptors 120-103 for their ninth straight victory. Derrick Rose added 19 points for the Knicks, who are on their longest winning streak since a 13-game run late in the 2012-13 season, when they won the Atlantic Division title in what was their last playoff appearance. They are surging toward another one, having moved into fourth place in the Eastern Conference with 11 games remaining. Toronto had its four-game win streak snapped.
In other NBA action:
— Giannis Antetokounmpo (YAH’-nihs an-teh-toh-KOON’-poh) scored 24 points and moved into second place on the Milwaukee Bucks’ career scoring list in a 132-94 romp over the Philadelphia 76ers. The Bucks beat the 76ers for the second time in three days to hand Philadelphia its fourth straight defeat. The 76ers were playing without All-Stars Joel Embiid (joh-EHL’ ehm-BEED’) and Ben Simmons. The 76ers matched their lowest point total and suffered their most lopsided loss of the season. Antetokounmpo increased his career total to 12,223 to overtake Glenn Robinson for second on the Bucks’ list. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is the Bucks’ top career scorer.

Crosby, Rust score as Penguins defeat Devils 4-2
UNDATED (AP) — Sidney Crosby and Bryan Rust each scored their 20th goal of the season, and the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the New Jersey Devils 4-2. Crosby got an empty-netter with 0.1 seconds to play. His goal came following a tense net-mouth scramble in which the Devils nearly tied the game.
Crosby surpassed Evgeni Malkin and Mario Lemieux (leh-MYOO’) for the most 20-plus goal seasons in franchise history. He’s the 36th player in NHL history to have 13 or more 20-plus goal seasons.
Elsewhere on NHL ice:
— Ryan O’Reilly had a hat trick to lead the St. Louis Blues to a 5-3 win over the Colorado Avalanche. Mike Hoffman and Ivan Barbashev also scored for St. Louis and Jordan Binnington made 28 saves as the Blues snapped a three-game skid. St. Louis had lost five straight against the Avalanche since winning at Colorado on Jan. 13 in the season opener for both teams. Nathan MacKinnon scored a pair of goals and Cale Makar also scored for Colorado. Devan Dubnyk made 25 saves as the Avalanche lost for just the second time in regulation since March 8, snapping a five-game winning streak. O’Reilly completed his hat trick with a late empty-netter.

Seager, Flexen help Mariners beat Red Sox 8-2
UNDATED (AP) — Kyle Seager singled, doubled and tripled, Sam Haggerty and Ty France also had three hits apiece, and Chris Flexen limited Boston to four hits over seven innings to lead the Seattle Mariners to an 8-2 victory over the Red Sox.
Seager singled in a run in the first inning, tripled home two more in the second and doubled in the fifth. He had two chances to get the homer he needed to complete the cycle, but he struck out on three pitches in the seventh and popped out in foul territory in the ninth.
Elsewhere in the majors:
— Brady Singer pitched seven impressive innings, and the Kansas City Royals took advantage of some defensive sloppiness by Detroit in a 2-1 victory over the Tigers. Willi Castro homered for Detroit in the fifth, but that wasn’t enough to overcome Kansas City’s two runs in the top of that inning. Singer allowed three hits and struck out eight. Matthew Boyd was on the wrong end of this pitcher’s duel, allowing one earned run and three hits in eight innings. The Tigers have lost eight of nine.
— Michael Perez had three hits and three RBIs, sending Trevor Cahill and the Pirates to the victory. Cahill permitted one run and two hits in six innings. It was his longest outing since he also worked six innings for the Angels at Baltimore on May 10, 2019. Minnesota lost for the 10th time in 12 games. Michael Pineda allowed five runs, four earned, and six hits in 4 1/3 innings. Jake Cave had two of the Twins’ three hits.
— Pinch-hitter Manny Piña connected for a tiebreaking two-run homer in the seventh inning, and the Milwaukee Brewers held off the Chicago Cubs for a 4-3 victory. Brent Suter worked two scoreless innings in relief of Freddy Peralta, helping Milwaukee to its fourth win in five games. Josh Hader got three outs for his fourth save in four opportunities, working around a leadoff walk. Keston Hiura had three hits and Kolten Wong finished with two as the Brewers bounced back from a 15-2 loss in the series opener Friday. Jason Heyward homered for Chicago, which had won four in a row.

Houston’s Altuve waits to return after positive COVID-19 test
UNDATED (AP) — Houston second baseman Jose Altuve (al-TOO’-vay) says he tested positive for COVID-19 but he never felt bad and hopes to return to the lineup soon.
The 2017 AL MVP was among five Astros who were placed on the COVID-19 list on April 14. The other four players returned to the roster within a few days, but Altuve remained on the list until Friday. He still hasn’t been added to the active roster, and it’s unclear how much time he’ll need before that happens.
Altuve says he received the first dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine before testing positive, and that he has no idea how he contracted the virus.
In other MLB news:
— Astros newcomer Jake Odorizzi (oh-duh-REE’-zee) exited his start against the Los Angeles Angels after just five pitches because of tightness in his right forearm. Odorizzi retired leadoff man David Fletcher on a flyball, grimacing on his final pitch. Odorizzi got a late start to the season after not signing with the Astros until March 8. He entered the game 0-2 with a 10.57 ERA in two starts this season. An All-Star in 2019 with Minnesota, Odorizzi was looking to bounce back from an injury-plagued 2020 season when he pitched just 13 2/3 innings.
— Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich (YEH’-lihch) is returning to Milwaukee for an MRI on his strained lower back. The 2018 NL MVP had been eligible to be activated from the injured list for this weekend’s series with the Chicago Cubs. Manager Craig Counsell says that Yelich hit a “plateau” in his recovery. The Brewers also said they placed pitchers Brett Anderson and Josh Lindblom on the injured list. Right-hander Phil Bickford and outfielder Corey Ray were recalled from the team’s alternate site.
— St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina (YAH’-dee-ehr moh-LEE’-nah) was available as a “super emergency guy” on Saturday, a day after the nine-time All-Star exited early with soreness in his right foot. Manager Mike Shildt said the initial imaging on Molina’s foot turned out favorably. During his at-bat in the fifth inning Friday night against Cincinnati, Molina hurt his right foot and left the game. Molina was not in the starting lineup Saturday with Andrew Knizner playing in his place. The 38-year-old Molina raised his batting average to .339 after he homered and doubled in a 5-4 win over the Reds.
