Futures of Some Selma Tourism Events Uncertain

From the West Alabama Newsroom– A dispute over city fees has dealt a major blow to the spring tourism season in the city of Selma. The annual Battle of Selma Civil War re-enactment won’t be happening this year. James Hammonds says the four day event was cancelled because of $22,000 dollars in fees the city is requesting for city services….

Plans for this year’s Bridge Crossing Jubilee celebrating the Selma to Montgomery march have been announced. This year will mark the 51st anniversary of the Bloody Sunday bridge crossing attempt in 1965. Following last years massive event, including the visit of President Barack Obama, organizers say they are hoping for another big turnout this year.
