Gov. Kay Ivey signs CHOOSE Act school choice program into law
Gov. Kay Ivey has signed legislation creating a program that would provide eligible families with as much as $7,000 to help pay for private school and $2,000 for homeschooling expenses.
Gov. Kay Ivey and House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter are seeking a injunction against the AHSAA over whether students who transfer schools under the CHOOSE Act are immediately eligible to participate in athletics.
The Governor’s Office says families have submitted applications that represent more than 36,000 students who are seeking school vouchers.
