Alabama Department of Labor Secretary Fitzgerald Washington announced Friday that Alabama’s preliminary, seasonally adjusted May unemployment rate is 3.4%, down from April’s rate of 3.6%, and well below May 2020’s rate of 7.9%.
A judge is refusing to delay next month’s scheduled ethics trial of Alabama House Speaker Mike Hubbard. Lee County Circuit Judge Jacob Walker on Friday denied a defense request to delay the trial until August. Walker says attorneys should be ready for jury selection the week of May 16.
