Tennessee’s Chase McGrath made a 40-yard field goal as time expired to give the No. 6 Volunteers a 52-49 victory over No. 3 Alabama on Saturday in Knoxville.
It’s the first time since 1989 that both Alabama and Tennessee have been unbeaten going into the Third Saturday of October rivalry game.
Alabama State (34-24) will now play an elimination game Saturday.
Santiago Vescovi scored 14 points and Zakai Zeigler had 11 of his 13 points in the second half to lead No. 17 Tennessee to a 67-62 victory over No. 3 Auburn.
No. 4 Alabama is set to host Tennessee aiming for a 15th consecutive victory in the rivalry game.
