Lake Martin Economy On The Rise

When the first hint of warm weather, people start hitting the outdoors. Good news for businesses along Lake Martin that depend on them.

And today is a very different scene from 2007 when a drought crippled that area and its economy. The recession also hit the communities around the lake.

But, nearly seven years later there are signs of progress. The Walnut Hill Grocery store didn’t survive the tough times, but it’s since been reopened.
Now there’s a convenience store and a new Louie’s restaurant.

Mark Davis, owner of Davis Construction Company said, “It’s coming back slowly but I don’t ever see it being like it was back in 2005 2006. people are just holding on to their money now than just blowing it and letting it go.”

Summer is the busiest time for the lake but store owners say they’ve already seen an up in their business with the nice weather this past weekend.
