YMCA of Greater Montgomery to host spring baseball games through Miracle League of Montgomery

YMCA of Montgomery will officially start running the Montgomery Miracle League, and they kicked off their spring baseball season Saturday.

A ribbon-cutting kicked off the ceremony at Doug Singleton Miracle League Field. The opening featured numerous speakers who spoke about the work that the Montgomery YMCA plans to do with the Miracle League.

Afterwards, their was a first pitch to open the field, and a baseball game for those apart of the Miracle League. Montgomery Miracle League serves those with intellectual and physical disabilities in our community.

“The YMCA believes in access. We believe in the power of giving individuals opportunities to be able to become their greatest selves and to be able to thrive. We recognize that the Miracle League of Montgomery is an opportunity for individuals in our community to be able to experience playing a sport to the best of their abilities, so we want to be able to serve that,” said President and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Montgomery, AJ Hernandez.

“Our CEO, AJ Hernandez, used to run this program in Texas, so when he brought it to us as a team and wanted to make sure we take this on as apart of what the YMCA offers, we were all super thrilled and excited for it. We came together and made sure that we made this day happen. As we look ahead, we’re just even more excited to have more participants to continue to serve our community, regardless of whatever their needs are. Our mission says that we’re here to serve all, and that is what we’re doing,” said Kentrella Jones, Associate Director of Impact for the YMCA of Greater Montgomery.

The Miracle League and YMCA of Montgomery will host a baseball game every Saturday until May 23rd.
