Pike Road Board of Education Elects First Superintendent
It was a unanimous decision Tuesday night as the Pike Road Board of Education voted to hire Dr. Suzanne Freeman as its first Superintendent.
“Major decision. Now we roll up our sleeves and get started. Ready to open schools,” said Board member Morgan Simpson.
Freeman is a two time graduate of Auburn University’s College of Education. She was a finalist for National School Superintendent of the Year in 2009, and a former superintendent of Trussville City Schools. Freeman told us she was impressed with the school system when she came to interview last week. This is what she told us then:
“Their vision for their school is very exciting because they want a higher level of education for all the children. So that’s very appealing with how they have had a grass roots effort and work hard to build community support for their school and school system,” said Freeman.
Mayor Gordon Stone says he looks forward to Freeman’s leadership.
“Really honored that we had three great candidates. Thrilled that we have the opportunity to see this project go forward with such tremendous leadership. Dr. Freeman brings such expertise and having started school systems to be a national finalist for superintendent of the year.”
Pike Road School is scheduled to open Fall of 2015.
