Upshaw Sentenced In Court

A Troy woman accused of killing her boyfriend is sentenced in a Pike county court. Tiffany Upshaw was sentenced to 10 years in prison on a manslaughter charge for the death of Melvin Scott.
Â
This will be a split sentence; meaning she will only have to serve nine months in a county jail, and then serve four years probation.
Â
She was arrested in July when Scott was found dead. She entered a manslaughter plea earlier this month.
Â
Witnesses told a judge it all started after an argument over money between Tiffany Upshaw and her on-again off-again boyfriend Melvin Scott. Upshaw went to the apartment to get away  from Scott, but he showed up and the two began arguing over money in her purse.
Â
Upshaw says they both reached for her gun that had fallen out of the purse, but she got to it first. Three shots were fired, one hitting a man trying to break up the fight and another struck Scott, killing him.
