Death of Alabama Jail Inmate Under Investigation

The Alabama Bureau of Investigation is probing the death of a Dallas County jail inmate.

Sheriff Harris Huffman says 39-year-old Sandra Hudson was found unresponsive in her cell Monday morning after she refused to eat her breakfast. Huffman tells the Selma Times-Journal the woman was found unresponsive when a correctional officer came to her cell to pick up her food tray.

Huffman says Hudson was taking several medications and was scheduled to attend drug rehab on Thursday. Hudson was in jail on charges of theft, credit card fraud and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Hudson’s cause of death is unclear and the Alabama Bureau of Investigation is doing an autopsy.
