Cleaning Up After Flooding Earlier In The Week

It’s been almost a week since heavy rain caused major flooding on the Alabama River.Â
Â
Some homeowners were displaced for a few days after flooding of the Catoma Creek.Â
Â
Down stream Montgomery fire crews spent much of the weekend trying to clean up Riverfront Park downtown.Â
Â
About an inch of mud covered the walkways and amphitheater stage. Â Branches and trees were stuck on the railings.
Â
Crews were working to cut them into pieces.
Â
They wanted to prevent them from weighing heavily on the railings that were still under water.
Â
Director Special Events Department Tom Pierce said,  “So far I know that we’ve got a busted column, more aesthetic damage than anything. Some decorative stone has busted off. But it’s still over the lower walk so we are yet to see what has happened there. So far that’s all we’ve seen.”
Â
Officials say the water was dropping a few inches per hour, which was a lot slowly than they originally anticipated.Â
