A manhunt has been underway for hours in Montgomery, near Hope Hull and Hooper Academy. Details are still very limited.

lResidents who live near Hope Hull say they’re being extra cautious as Montgomery City and County officials search for a suspect. Dan Almond lives off Fischer Road and says he didn’t expect to come home to helicopters, tracking dogs, and police cars.

”Its very quiet,” he says. ”Very laid back, no trouble at all, everyones friendly.”

But now that quiet neighborhood is the scene of a manhunt. And Almond says he plans to lock up all of his belongings.

”And load my guns too.”

It started around 3 o’clock Tuesday afternoon. State troopers attempted to make a traffic stop in East Alabama. When they did, the suspect fled the scene in his car and state troopers lost him near Opelika. Montgomery police then spotted the car and stopped the driver on I-65 south, near Hope Hull. The driver then got out of the car and fled by foot.

”There’s police everywhere,” says resident Brad Kurczewski. ”They’re on the road, they’re everywhere. They’re driving around talking to people.

Kurczewski also lives off Fischer Road and says law enforcement has been in the area for hours.

”I was able to go home, get my stuff because Im going out of town, packed my car and they’re just checking vehicles going in and out.”
