The Supreme Court Says Prayers that Open Council Meetings Don’t Violate the Constituation
The Supreme Court says prayers that open town council meetings don’t violate the Constitution. The justices say that the content of prayers is not critical… as long as officials make a good-faith effort at inclusion. The ruling is a victory for the New York town of Greece. A federal appeals court ruled that the town outside Rochester violated the Constitution by opening nearly every meeting with christian prayers for the past 11 years.
