Cyclists Join together for Montgomery “Ride of Silence”

Bicyclists gathered in downtown Montgomery Wednesday night for a “Ride of Silence.”
Organizers say the ride had three purposes.
“Number one, it honors cyclists who have been injured or killed cycling. Number 2, it tries to raise awareness that bicycling are on the road, we have the same rights and responsibilities as other motor vehicles. And the third is, to ask courteousy and respect of other motor vehicles on the road,” said Organizer Robert Traphan.
Jeff Periatt came to join the Montgomery Bicycle Club for his first Ride of Silence.
“Because I commute to work, I want people to be more aware that I’m on the road and make them more aware of our presence,” said Periatt.
The cyclists recited a poem to help them reflect on the meaning behind the ride, and then it was time to hit the road for a ride through downtown Montgomery.
Over the past few years Montgomery has made strides to become a more bike friendly city, creating bike paths and bike trails.
And for that, cyclists are grateful.
“I think its getting better a lot better. I think there are things that can be built upon and improved,” said Traphan.
